The National Spanish Examination Proficiency Levels are unique and specific benchmarks of what students should be able to do as they pass specific thresholds.  These proficiency levels have been:

  based on the ACTFL Guidelines for K-12 Learners

  developed by the NSE Test Development Committee (secondary Spanish teachers and university assessment specialists)

  used to develop test items for the proficiency test section of the National Spanish Examination

Nivel 1 - Preliminar

Nivel 2 - Elemental

Nivel 3 - Básico

Nivel 4 - Intermedio

Nivel 5 - Pre-avanzado

Nivel 6 - Avanzado
