Virtual and Homeschool Students Print E-mail

Virtual and Homeschool students are eligible to take the National Spanish Examinations. Virtual and Homeschool teachers must make arrangements for their students to take the exam under the supervision of a participating teacher in an accredited institution.  This requirement ensures that no one can challenge any student's exam results.

Please follow these procedures to properly register your virtual or homeschool student for the NSE.

Step 1 - Contact the Chapter Coordinator:

The virtual or homeschool teacher should contact the local/state NSE Chapter Coordinator who will assist the virtual or homeschool teacher in finding an accredited institution (called the sponsoring school) and a teacher who will give the exam (called the sponsoring teacher) in his/her school. The virtual or homeschool students must take the exam at the sponsoring school when the sponsoring teacher administers it to his/her students.

Step 2 - Register Virtual or Homeschool Students:

Once the sponsoring teacher has agreed to sponsor the virtual or homeschool student(s)

(1) the virtual or homeschool teacher must send the names of his/her students to the sponsoring teacher
(2) the sponsoring teacher must submit a separate registration for the virtual or homeschool students using a different email address from that of his/her regular registration. The virtual or homeschool students will be listed under the sponsoring teacher and school.

Step 3 - Pay for the Exam:

The cost per student for virtual or homeschool teachers and their students will be the same as the cost for the sponsoring teachers and their students. The cost per student is the national fee $3 and an optional chapter fee. If the sponsoring teacher participates at the local/state level, the virtual or homeschool teacher must include the chapter fee per student.

The virtual or homeschool teacher must pay the regular $75 teacher fee. If the virtual or homeschool teacher is a member of the AATSP, this fee is waived.

The homeschool teacher must fill out the homeschool information form and submit this form with a copy of the homeschool registration confirmation email invoice and payment to the NSE National Office.

The virtual teacher must fill out the virtual school information form and submit this form with a copy of the virtual registration confirmation email invoice and payment to the NSE National Office.

Step 4 - Obtain Exam Results:

National Spanish Exam results for the virtual or homeschool students are sent from the NSE national office to the sponsoring teacher by May 1st. It is then the responsibility of the virtual or homeschool teacher to obtain the results from the sponsoring teacher.
